Hi POW team,
I am incredibly excited about this job opportunity. I believe that my work experience lines up perfectly with what you're looking for in the Manager, Communications and Creative role. I have five years of political and non-profit experience using digital and messaging tactics to create communities and advocate for change. My experience includes, but is not limited to:
Creating, implementing, and optimizing marketing campaigns;
Generating over $4 million in revenue through email and digital marketing;
Using social media to create a community of activists;
Designing printed collateral and advertisements;
Managing web developer and videographer freelancers;
Maintaining websites built on Wordpress and other CMSs.
Personally, I am extremely dedicated to protecting our environment. I want to slow and hopefully reverse climate change so that I can continue enjoying outdoor recreation like skiing, hiking, and fly-fishing. I also want to protect our environment from climate change so that my 13-year-old sisters and others can enjoy outdoor activities for generations to come.
Thank you for taking the time to review my application and portfolio. I look forward to hearing from you.
- Matt Campbell
A major part of my previous roles was writing action-oriented copy to drive activism and donations. I wrote content for blogs, social media, video scripts, and email marketing -- essentially everything that went online was either created by me or approved by me. Here are some examples of a few emails that I wrote for Senator Bennet's campaign:
On Senator Bennet's Campaign I produced, directed, in some cases filmed, and edited a 12-part video series called, "Working for Colorado." They were unscripted, interview based videos that required research beforehand so that my freelance videographer and I could guide the conversation to get the content we wanted from our subjects. I'm especially proud of this project because, through frugal project-management, I was able to complete it 50% under budget and two months early while still maintaining a high-quality product.

Graphics and Brand Management
A politician's brand is one of their most important assets. Everything from on-the-record comments to TV ads and bumper stickers must have a unifying voice and feel. One aspect of that is managing social media and ensuring voters are getting the most up-to-date messaging directly from the campaign. This includes an aggressive organic and paid social media strategy.
On Michael's campaign, I was tasked with designing and implementing all printed collateral. This included: rally signs, banners, bumper stickers, printed handouts, newspaper ads, and a coach bus wrap for a multi-day bus tour.
Here is a sampling of graphics I've created for political and nonprofit social or printed use:
Microsite Design and Build
I designed and built Million Dollar Lobbyist to help garner earned media around a mail piece and new TV commercial. This was one segment of an an all-inclusive media plan where we could deliver the same messaging online, on TV, and through the mail. Here is a screenshot of the site:
